Exponential Change

ChangeUp: LA is an intense, community event with the goal of making great strides toward improving the effectiveness of five non-profit organizations.

In one weekend, a few dozen design, marketing, and web professionals will meet with representatives from the five organizations. The organizations will present their design challenges (a new brochure, updated branding, a website refresh, etc.) and the participants will form groups and work to complete the projects... all by the end of the weekend!

It's a wrap... and the end to one amazing weekend!

Wow. WOW. WOW! It's hard to believe this weekend is over. Kevin and I have been planning this event for many months, and it's always been a ways off into the future. Then suddenly it was next weekend, then tomorrow, then today, and now it's over...

While both of us put a lot of time, and our heart and soul into this event, our participants put in even more. They signed up for just an idea... and then they showed up. They made ChangeUp real. And if there's one thing I know I repeated numerous times over the course of the weekend, it's the importance of getting from the idea to the real. And our amazing participants made that happen.

Final Event Details: One Day to Go!

Over the last week, we've sent out a few emails to participants with last-minute information and details. I'm hearing some people haven't received those, so I thought I'd post everything here on the site as well. Read on for full details...

4 Days!

Only four days away!. I'm overwhelmed with the response we've gotten even in the past week. It rocks my world when I hear people driving from San Francisco and San Diego specifically to be a part of this event (you know who you are!)

We've set some lofty goals for this event and it looks like we're going to accomplish them! I'm going back over to Blankspaces today to make sure everything is in order. Joshua and I are working with the organizations over the next few days to gather assets and create documentation that will make the lives for all the participants much easier.

CADRE is our Fifth Organization

CADRE, or Community Asset Development Re-defining Education, has signed on as our fifth and final non-profit organization.

North East Trees to Participate in ChangeUp

North East Trees, a wonderful non-profit focused on rehabilitating the natural resources within our urban environment, has signed on to participate in the inaugural ChangeUp event.

AIDS Project Los Angeles to participate in ChangeUp

Woo! I'm really excited about this one. We just heard back from Gabriel at AIDS Project Los Angeles with good news: he'll be representing APLA at ChangeUp! It's also exciting because one of the projects he's bringing to the event is a logo redesign for their new wellness center! Ok I need to cut back on the exclamation points. I apologize.

What to Expect at ChangeUp

May 30th is going to be awesome. Us creative types are usually night owls, so we figured a 9:30am start time wouldn't be too bad. However, there are a few things you'll need to know to make the weekend a success:

Follow @ChangeUpLA on Twitter

ChangeUp is now on Twitter... follow us @ChangeUpLA!

Blankspaces to Host ChangeUp

I just got off the phone with the great people over at Blankspaces on Wilshire. Joshua told me about how great their space was for StartUp Weekend during our initial talks about the project, and we thought it would be perfect for this event. We just dropped a deposit for the space, and we're now booked for the last weekend of May! No turning back now! Here are a few shots of their beautiful space:

ALS Onboard

Our friend Angie over at The ALS Association (they work to fight Lou Gehrig's Disease) is bringing a few projects to ChangeUp on May 30–31!
